Work Experience Is Key!

Had a meeting with Candy Jar this morning about doing some marketing work experience there for the next few months, and it seems like it’s going to be great fun and a real learning curve! I’m going to be really involved in some of the projects they have going on, should be great fun!

Keep watching this space for news on what I am up to with Candy Jar!

Also, saw the video of the presenting piece I did for them in January. Take a look and tell me what you think!

If An Opportunity Knocks, Take It With Open Arms!

Well two fantastic opportunities came my way today, and I have accepted both with open arms!

The first is an opportunity to do some Marketing and Advertising work experience with Candy Jar, I will be finding out more next Thursday morning, and I will also get to see my presenting work that I did for them last month, which should be cool and interesting to see. =)

I have also been asked to star in my little brother’s Thriller film, as the lead female protagonist Zoe Moon, which I will be filming on the 27th February when the family come down to visit. Should be fun and interesting as it is such a long time since I did my Thriller film back in college, and all the memories will come flooding back! Following in his sisters footsteps, and I wish him the best of luck with it! Read the character profiles and progress HERE.

Obviously I can expand more once I know exactly what I will be doing, so stay tuned!

Forever In A Memory – Progress Update – 10/11/10

I feel like I haven’t updated this in a while!

Script Feedback:

Found out that our tutor wasn’t so keen on our script idea, but after standing our ground and coming up with a ‘flash back’ alternative to insert into the script at key points, as apposed to changing the scripts, we appear to have won him over!

You have mounted a good defence of your project! Your suggestion of including flashbacks of happier events she experienced in the past with her family is a good one, I think.  These would show that she hasn’t always been unhappy at home.  It would undermine what you want to say if the audience got the impression that she’s always been depressed – and that this is the reason she has committed suicide/killed herself

There were a few other questions asked about the script as well:

You’ve obviously thought hard about the plight of Kelly but in some ways I think we lose her very personal story and have the more generic references, Nirvana, wrist slashing and teenage angst.
So, what is your aim in wanting to tell this story or in another way what is it about (not what happens or what we see)?
Is it meant to engender a sense of reassurance that even though a young girls dies she’ll be ok in the next world?
The conclusion as it stands leaves the father, stepmother and kids in a state of depression and the only one with resolution is Kelly.

Who’s to blame for the events, the absent mother? Father’s new family? Lauren taking place of mother. Kelly just wants father to herself? Is selfishness the cause?
I think the title, as it stands, clearly gives away the situation prompting the question how early do want the audience to be aware that she is dead (as well as Tobias)?
Once we know she is dead it’s a case of waiting until she discovers this. is this enough fro an audience?

This is interesting to think that the public would think this, but it also raises valid questions to our approach. We could work with the way that the film is shot, edited and acted to show these things, or add more into the script to bulk out the story (which is one of the things we didn’t want to do, as we didn’t want to detract away from the film qualitites).

After explaining about my intentions of the project, and about how we wanted to try and launch the film as a drug awareness campaign, I recieved this reply:

The drug awareness campaign is an interesting addition to the mix.
Given that do we really see enough of the downward drug spiral to foreground the issue?
Whilst it was clearly the cause of her death you did offer an alternative semi attempt at suicide with the compass and the back story is ‘deserted by mother  etc.’ so drugs could be a bit of a side issue.
Also what killed her? Bad coke? Too much of other drugs?
We do only see her take the one line.

The drugs bit is in evidence. We see her take it, the school scene focusses on it and the end bedroom scene makes clear reference to her drug taking. What I think is missing is maybe any sense that she been slipping down the slippery slope for some time. Should we see others that lead her on this path? Was there one action or event that pushed her towards the drugs?

I feel that in order to recieve a grade worthy of a 1st, me and Emily will have to take these comments on board, and put them into practice, either in shooting the film, editing the film, acting in the film, or in the script itself. These choices are up to us really, however, you always have to impress a tutor!

Auditions:

We have succesfully arranged a meeting with Stagecoach, and their children who want to act in the film. This meeting is set up for Thursday the 18th at 2.45pm and 5pm in the ATRiUM, so I am really looking forward to it, and hoping it will go well!
The 18th is when we are auditioning for Kelly as well, which is really exciting, and I am hoping we find the right girl (and all that asked to audition turn up!), the auditions will be from 1PM in the ATRiUM.

Helen Cleary has agreed to play the role of Lauren

and

Pete Grimwood has agreed to play the role of Tobias

I feel relieved, and although we have had to ask these to play the role, due to not much interest, they have agreed – PHEW!

After auditions on Thursday 18th, we will have cast Kelly, as well as Paul, which is at the moment a toss up between 2 actors, as well as have cast the 3 children.

Support:

After making initial contact with ‘The Treatment Centre’ I have been told to send them the pilot film, once it is completed in January! – They are happy to support us through Social Media if this is what we want them to do. However, I do feel that I will have to persuade them slightly to upload the video and gain more awareness  for the project. So this will have to be an epic trailer to work!
However, this has confirmed my choice to wait till the pilot is made before writing to Cardiff Council and D.A.R.E about supporting us on the film as well.

Locations:

Having secured 1 location (i.e My House), we are faced with a slight dilema of finding a Kitchen Table and Chairs, so if anyone reading this blog has this prop, that is essential to the scene could they get in touch with me!

Our next location hunt is for the school, we plan to talk to Cardiff High School about using their premisis for filming on after school hours, and asking the Drama department if their students would be prepared to act in the film, if they say yes… It is onto writing letters of permission from parents!

More paper work!

haha

Music Cover’s – I Dreamed A Dream

Went to Tequila Radio Karaoke on Sunday night, and had a song put in for me… ‘I dreamed a dream’ from Les Miserables… a very difficult song to sing.
It was recorded on my camera, however due to technology my memory card broke and I can’t get the video’s off… SO, I recorded it at home….
Listen, and tell me what you guys think, the parents say it’s good… but well, they are meant to, and frankly I don’t believe them!

I Dreamed A Dream

p.s – this was recorded at 10PM on Wednesday 27th October, whilst very tired and sat down, with not much practice, so don’t judge too much =P!
